Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India and was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park to protect the endangered Bengal tiger. It is located in Nainital district and Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand and was named after Jim Corbett, a well known hunter and naturalist. The park was the first to come under the Project Tiger initiative. 

It is also being honored as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in 1973. This unique tiger territory is best known as father who gave birth of the Project Tiger in Indian to protect the most endangered species and the Royal of India called Tigers. Corbett has been a haunt for tourists and wildlife lovers for a long time. Tourism activity is only allowed in selected areas of Corbett Tiger Reserve so that people get an opportunity to see its landscape and wildlife.

Corbett National Park comprises 520.8 km (201.1 sq mi) area of hills, riverine belts, marshy depressions, grasslands and a large lake. The elevation ranges from 1,300 to 4,000 ft (400 to 1,220 m). Winter nights are cold but the days are bright and sunny. It rains from July to September.

Dense moist deciduous forest mainly consists of sal, haldu, peepal, rohini and mango trees. Forest covers almost 73% of the park, 10% of the area consists of grasslands. It houses around 110 tree species, 50 species of mammals, 580 bird species and 25 reptile species.

How to reach Jim Corbett?

Ramnagar is perhaps the best approach to the Corbett National Park which forms the headquarters of CTR. This small city is well connected by flight, road & rail network with major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad, Nainital and Bareilly. Once you reach Ramnagar, then it takes only half an hour to reach Corbett National Park. The park is around 15 Kms from Ramnagar Railway Station.

By Air

Pantnagar airport is the nearest airport to Corbett, situated at a distance of about 80 km from Corbett National Park. Situated at a distance of about 40 km is the Ramnagar railway station that connects Corbett to various other cities like Delhi, Haridwar, Lucknow and Varanasi.

By Road 

Ramnagar has a very good network of road that connects the different cities. Distance from major cities by road is as below.

Delhi         : Delhi - Moradabad – Kashipur – Ramnagar (260 Kms)

Nainital     : via Kaladhungi to Ramnagar (62 Kms)

Lucknow   : Lucknow – Bareily – Kicha – Rudrapur – Kashipur – Ramnagar (436 Kms)

Dehradun : Dehradun – Ramnagar (232 Km)

By Train

The nearest railway station from Corbett is Ramnagar which is around 12 km from the park and the station is directly connected to the railway stations in Delhi. A direct train named Ranikhet Express runs from Delhi to Ramnagar which is the best train to reach Corbett from Delhi.

Safari Zones at Jim Corbett National Park 

Corbett National Park is divided into the five ecotourism zones for the proper management of the tourism activities in the tiger reserve area. These zones are Dhikala zone, Bijarani zone, Jhirna Zone, Dhela zone and Durga Devi zone. All the procedures of safari booking at Corbett are done by the forest officials at the park as per the guidelines of India’s Forest Department. And pressurizing any official for any kind of liberation in safari booking and in scheduling safari timing is against the law and is a punishable offence. However there is restriction on the number of entering vehicles as per the season and zone.

Safari’s at Jim Corbett National Park

There are three types of safaris available in Jim Corbett National Park - Jeep Safari, Elephant Safari and Canter Safari. Among these, jeep and elephant safaris are the most common ones and are available for every zone of the park. But Canter safaris run only in Dhikala Zone, the core area of the national park. According to Sightings Index by Wild Trails, the best zones to visit for tiger sighting and safari tour in Jim Corbett National Park are the Bijrani safari zone, Dhikala Safari Zone and Dhela Safari Zone. The jeep safari tours are allowed in two shifts inside the Corbett tiger reserve in all of the tourism zones.

Day 1 Arrival Corbett National Park– Transfer to Wildlife Resort

We are at your service starting from your arrival at the resort. Energize yourself with the welcome drink, rest for a while and have lunch at the restaurant. Post lunch, you can go for sightseeing to Garjiya Devi Temple or Dhangarhi Museum or Corbett Fall on your own. Come back to resort in the evening and enjoy recreational facilities in the resort premises. Later, have your high tea.

In the night, have dinner and enjoy your overnight stay in the resort.

Day 2 Corbett National Park/ Jungle Safari & Sightseeing

The 2nd day of your tour is devoted to early morning jungle jeep safari accompanied by expert naturalist. Start your day with refreshing hot cup of tea/coffee and gear up for the open jeep safari, which is booked for you in advance. We enter the core area of Corbett National Park in search of Corbett’s remarkable wildlife, which includes Royal Bengal Tigers as well as many mammals plus an astonishing variety of birdlife.

Keep your cameras ready to capture the rare images of the tiger and various other wildlife species while they are resting in their habitats. The 3-hour wildlife safari will take you through the pristine wilderness area with some of the great sightings of wildlife. Corbett is one of the most popular national parks in India and offers visitors an excellent chance of witnessing thrilling confrontations between tiger and other animals.

Come back to resort after you finish safari and have breakfast. Enjoy recreational facilities in the resort. Later in the evening, enjoy the high tea and move towards Kosi River Bank (located in Dhikuli Village Resorts), enjoy river walk and spend a few hours there.

Come back, have dinner and enjoy your overnight stay at the resort.

Day 3 Corbett National Park Checkout – Delhi Departure

On 3rd day of your tour, either you can take the morning jungle safari or just relax comfortably in your suite or room. After the breakfast, check out from the resort for the onward destination with happy and pleasant memories of your holiday.
